Properly prepared, authentic Italian espresso is truly a glorious thing by itself, and offers the foundation for many easily prepared and delicious drinks including cappuccino and latte. Many people enjoy simple combination drinks of espresso with steamed milk, but if you prefer there are many recipes that include spices, syrups and other flavor additions. Anyone can prepare wonderful espresso, cappuccino and latte drinks right at home with some basic equipment including an espresso machine, milk frothing pitcher, and of course some fine Italian espresso. A concentrated drink produced by forcing hot water through finely ground coffee with an espresso machine for a brewed quantity of approximately 1 to 1-1/2 oz. A perfect espresso is deliciously smooth, with full body, intense aroma and a velvety crema. Best served in a pre-heated espresso cup. Please know, the proper spelling and pronunciation is "espresso" and not "expresso".
A single shot of espresso topped with 1-2 Tbs. of foamed milk, best served in a pre-heated espresso cup.
Traditionally prepared with 1/3 part espresso, 1/3 part steamed milk and 1/3 part foam in a small cappuccino cup which are typically 4-6 oz. in capacity. Cappuccino can be garnished with a light sprinkle of ground chocolate, cocoa powder, cinnamon, or nutmeg if desired. To prepare flavored cappuccino, simply add some quality coffee syrup such as Monin to taste.
A double-shot of espresso mixed with approximately 5 oz. of steamed milk, typically little or no foam is added. Served in a large latte cup which are typically 9-12 oz. in capacity. To prepare flavored latte, simply add some quality coffee syrup such as Monin to taste.

Espresso Dopio (Double Espresso)
Double the quantity of espresso to about 2-3 oz. for double the pleasure. Typically served in a slightly larger espresso cup of about 3 oz. capacity, or a small cappuccino cup.
Espresso con Panna
A single or double espresso shot topped with whipped cream. Only real whipped cream will do!
A single shot of espresso topped with freshly grated lemon zest. This is not a traditional Italian espresso recipe, but is more often served in the USA.
Spicy Viennese Espresso
Mix a double-shot of espresso, 1/2 t cinnamon, 4 ground cloves and 1/2 t allspice. Top with real whipped cream.
Mix 1/3 part espresso with 2/3 part steamed and add some dissolved cocoa or chocolate syrup to taste.
Cool Cocoa Espresso
Mix a single espresso shot (cooled) with 2-3 t cocoa, 1/2 t vanilla extract and 1-cup cold milk. Pour over ice in a tall glass and top with some real whipped cream.
